The creative expressive power of the singular black calligraphy line in the Japanese tradition of painting has influenced artists over the centuries. This workshop will explore the artistic possibilities of the Japanese calligraphy brush through observing flowers in a vase. We will create multiple black sumi ink paintings of the flowers, in order to capture the expressive power of each line and moment in time. Then delicate color will be added to the painting with ink and watercolors. A unique portfolio of a “Japanese” inspired still life will emerge and inspire a new generation.

Then on the second day, fabric and stuffing will be used to construct the soft body and clothes. We will then paint the doll and bring its unique personality to life. Furthermore, natural yarn, buttons, lace and other decorative materials will be available to glue on to the doll for a finishing touch. What a great opportunity to make a new doll friend to play with or treasure on the display shelf.
